|Abstract||This poster session will promote ideas for how to move into a virtual world with the support needed from administrators, teachers, and ultimately students. What are the steps to getting started? SLEEC Island (Second Life Educators of Escambia County) will provide examples of how it all started. Instructors will be able to envision the possibilities for having their own virtual campus.|
|Bio(s):||Lori Weedo: Lori Weedo currently holds a position in the Information Technology Department for the Escambia County School District as an Instructional Technology Teacher. She provides professional learning to educators district-wide and specializes in training for project-based learning, virtual learning environments, Web 2.0 tools, and iPad devices among many other technology software and hardware. She has more than 20 years of experience with the district and has worked as a Business Technology Teacher and Technology Coordinator. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Teacher Education and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership.|
|Lauren Thurman: Lauren Thurman is an Instructional Technology Teacher for the Escambia County School District in Pensacola, Florida. She has 21 years experience in the district as a Media Specialist, Technology Coordinator and IT Teacher. Her responsibilities include coaching and mentoring teachers participating in the district Technology Infused Project Based Learning Initiatives to develop rigorous projects focusing on key academic content while developing 21st century skills. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in Educational Media from the University of South Alabama.|
